How adult adoption can empower Louisiana families

Adult Adoptions

Sometimes the most meaningful cases come together quickly. Recently, I received a call from Clarice about a matter that was both urgent and deeply personal. Her family wanted to finalize an adult adoption so her elderly grandfather could legally adopt his stepdaughter, the woman he had raised and loved as his own daughter all her life.

Clarice’s words in her review meant a lot to me:
“We are so grateful to Attorney Michael Calogero for helping our family so quickly and professionally. He understood our situation right away, took action immediately, and kept us informed every step of the way. His kindness, expertise, and efficiency turned a stressful time into a manageable one. We couldn’t have asked for better support and highly recommend him to anyone in need of legal help.”

Her call came in, I answered, and the very next day we were able to complete the adoption. For me, driving two hours out of town was a small inconvenience compared to the importance of helping this family achieve the legal recognition they had long deserved.

This case is a reminder of why I do what I do: Prompt action, compassion, and care matter most when families are under pressure.

Why adult adoption matters

Many people are unaware of the issue of adult adoptions and their potential impact. Adult adoptions give families the legal tools to:

  • Secure inheritance rights and clarify family relationships
  • Empower caregivers to make decisions for loved ones
  • Honor bonds that have existed for decades, regardless of biology

In Clarice’s family’s case, the adoption was more than a legal act. It was a recognition of the love and loyalty that had already defined their family for a lifetime.

My commitment

I’m grateful I was able to be there for Clarice and her family. When you call, I’ll answer. When your matter can’t wait, I’ll make it a priority. Behind every legal document is a family who deserves compassion, respect, and prompt service.

Three things you should include in your will

Many people put off creating a will because it feels uncomfortable or overwhelming. Others assume their wishes are obvious and that their family will figure things out later. If you’re thinking about creating or updating your will, here are three essential things every Louisiana family should make sure it includes.
